Galena

Amy's grandma lives in a town that is featured in one of our many guide books/ bibles for this trip; so obviously we had to make the trek. Galena was a mining town on the west side of Illinois that was a boomtown in the nineteenth century because of its location on the Mississipi and rich source of lead deposits in the surrounding area.

Here's our trip to Galena documented through pictures because hey, a picture is worth a thousand words:

Day One

country road take me home

Chestnut Hill Resort...

where we did this; alpine sliding

the Mississippi!

sitting on the banks of the Mississippi, Otis Redding eat your heart out

Mountain Man

fittin' in with the locals (note: they're bb guns)

Day Two

We went into the village of Galena which was a quaint town built into the hillside. We ate lunch at a small local diner and finished off the tour of the town strolling through the tourist shops.

By around 4 the GART began to feel the gypsy winds blowing again and decided there was no better time than the present to get moving again and head towards Madison, WI! We said goodbye to our fabulous hostesses Grammy Otis, Megan and Amy. We then packed up ole Queen Bee and headed north up blue highway 12 to Madison. But more on that later

Location:Galena, IL
